A medium brightness level provides sufficient illumination to search for victims and navigate through various terrains without being overly intense.

High intensity lights can cause glare and may hinder visibility, particularly in low-light conditions or when used in close proximity to a person or object—this can be detrimental during sensitive SAR situations. Conversely, low beam lights lack the brightness necessary to effectively illuminate larger areas, making them less suitable for extensive searches.

Infrared light is often used in specialized operations, particularly with night vision equipment, but it may not be practical or effective for general SAR work as it cannot be seen by the naked eye. Therefore, a medium bright light strikes the right balance, allowing teams to perform their tasks efficiently while minimizing risks associated with glare and reduced visibility.
